Weber’s Wild Beginnings

The College of Weber received its name from a fur trapper and trader who called Salt Lake City his home in the 1800's. After its enterprise in 1889, the school increased to new heights both in education and in athletics. The College now holds a respectable 21,000 scholars and scores of highly skilled athletic teams. Between hockey, rodeo, basketball and a terrific Wildcat mascot, Weber State University is captivating scores of scholars and fans everywhere. Who can't help loving a college that prides itself in a fabulous education and top of the line sports programs?

Dribbling to success, the Weber State men's basketball team has received many awards and acclimation for their tough work. The team and their Wildcat standard mascot even made it on the list of the greatest basketball programs in college history. Don't assume the women's basketball team can not keep up because they are establishing to live up to that Weber name. The team has been competing in the championship games for three years in a row now.

The splendidly and simple to use design of Weber State University's website provides its visitors a great way to learn about the School . Told on the website is a tale of the college's own wildcat mascot, Waldo. Waldo is no ordinary mascot. The tale of Waldo is sort of a fun read. Wally Morris was a Weber State Soccer team. Thanks in part to a team player making fun of him, and another player sticking up for him, he obtained the name Wildcat Morris. Deriving from Wally's nickname and a title threw on the bunch from a local reports article, the Wildcat name stuck like glue. Though the President of the faculty was strongly against the name, the scholars and fans won in the end.

A live wildcat mascot was shown off at all the college gatherings until one of the scholars was snapped at by the trusting looking creature. Waldo finally took control of the job as mascot and does a terrific job at entertaining everyone on game day. Although Waldo fits the description of Wildcat, he is in contrast to the shrewd felines found throughout the Utah mountainside. Waldo the Wildcat mascot is a loveable guy who can win over the guts of any kid. Together with the support of his school, fans, and students, Waldo the Wildcat mascot will be around indefinitely.
